Australian actor Harry Cook has praised other actors who have come out as gay for speaking openly about sexuality.

Cook, 22, came out publicly last year in a YouTube video, just days after Tom Daley spoke about his sexuality in a similar clip.

Now the actor has revealed that he met up with Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson in Los Angeles recently, and revealed that he draws inspiration from fellow gay actors who have come out and gone on to forge successful careers.

“Jesse was cool!” Cook told the Daily Mail. “We talked about Australia and stuff because he had just got back from shooting the Modern Family episodes [in Sydney].”

Cook then added: “It’s great to be in a place where so many young, talented successful actors including Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Neil Patrick Harris, Jim Parsons, Matt Bomer and Sam Smith are open about who they are.”

Cook also discussed his boyfriend of three years, Liam Davies, admitting that it was hard to be in a relationship when he was still in the closet.

“I actually feel really sorry for him because he’s had to shut up and just be there for me while I go through this,” Cook said. “He hasn’t been offended by that at all, whereas I would have been. He has always been so supportive of me, how cute is that?”.

Cook’s previous acting credits include Aussie TV and film work in Panic at Rock Island, Accidents Happen and Caught Inside, and he is now attempting to launch his career in Hollywood.
