Gay activists claim Antartica as the first LGBT friendly continent

By Fabio Crispim

Activists Planting Peace are known for their PR stunts, from creating a rainbow Pride centre opposite the Westboro Baptist Church to holding mock gay weddings.

Now the group have travelled to Antartica and ‘claimed’ it in the name of LGBT people around the world.

Antartica is protected by international treaties which prohibit any state from grabbing it, but that didn’t stop Planting Peace hoisting the rainbow flag.

The President and founder of Planting Peace, Aaron Jackson, made the long trip to Antartica in order to raise the rainbow flag and introduce it to some of the locals.

Jackson explained that “I was just watching a documentary on Antartica and thought, ‘Aw, man, I’d like to visit Antartica – that would be real interesting. Maybe I should bring a pride flag.”

“That would be really interesting if we declared it the first gay-friendly continent. The reality is, no one will be able to tell me it’s not.”

Planting Peace added, “Let this declaration serve as a catalyst to create the momentum needed to bring LGBT rights to every continent in the world.”

“Currently, 76 countries are violating the rights of LGBT people and in six countries you can even be killed for being a sexual minority.”
