Gary Lucy is to leave EastEnders later this year.

The actor has played bisexual character Danny Pennant on the BBC One soap since early last year, having previously put it a two-month stint on Albert Square in 2012.

A spokesperson for the soap told the Daily Star yesterday (January 19): “We can confirm that Gary is leaving EastEnders later this year and we wish him all the best for the future.”

The Daily Star reports that Gary has already filmed his final scenes and his exit episode will air next month, though this has yet to be confirmed by EastEnders.

Gary has since hinted on Twitter that he is open to returning to the show in the future, posting yesterday: “thank you for your messages loved my time @Ee interesting character with lots of scope see u later rather than good bye 😉 ps more 2 come x”
