Columnist claims Catholic priests are not paedophiles but homosexuals
Maureen Mullarkey argued that priests who have committed child sex abuse haven’t committed paedophilia but instead pederasty

A columnist has claimed the main problem with Catholic priests is homosexuality, not paedophilia.
Author of the column featured in The Federalist – which was titled ‘Paedophilia isn’t the main problem with Catholic priests, homosexuality is’ – Maureen Mullarkey attempted to rebuff an opinion piece in the New York Times which discussed clerical paedophilia and Pope Francis’ overdue action on the crisis.
Mullarkey criticised the publication for “ignoring homosexual predation as the culprit” of child sex abuse in the Roman Catholic church.

Following recent investigations, more than 300 “predator priests” are in six dioceses in Pennsylvania and molested more than 1,000 children in the past 70 years.
A study in Germany found that more than 3,600 children have been abused in the country over a similar timeframe.
Now Pope Francis is facing criticism and pressure to address and resolve the cover-up that allowed the abuse to go unreported for decades around the world.
In a bid to try and push back society’s acceptance of homosexuality, Mullarkey wrote: “Homosexuality has been normalised, officially approved, ratified and okayed.”
Her bigoted column argues that priests who have committed child sex abuse haven’t committed paedophilia but instead pederasty – the term to describe an adult man who is sexually attracted to younger, teenage boys.
She believes that pederasty is associated with homosexuality rather than being a form of paedophilia.
