Colton Haynes stuns as ’50s housewife for Vanity Fair

By Troy Nankervis

Actor and model Colton Haynes has stepped into the shoes of a 1950s housewife for a stunning shoot with photographer Tyler Shields.

Featured in Vanity Fair, the 27-year-old star of Teen Wolf and Arrow appears alongside model Emily Bett Rickards in the shoot, which is to also appear in Shields’ new photography book, entitled Provocateur.

In one still, Haynes – who appeared to come out rather casually in an online post earlier this month – holds a cigarette while donning a blonde wig and tailored suit, and effortlessly channels the likes of Katherine Hepburn, Lauren Bacall and Sophia Loren.

Shields told Vanity Fair it would have been a “huge faux pas” for someone like Haynes to take part in a photoshoot of this nature if it were still back in the 1950s. “The interesting thing about the vintage dress we used is the cuts they used to use fit him so well,” he said.

“It was when we were talking about shooting Colton in the vintage women’s suit that the idea to shoot Colton and Emily in each other’s outfits came up. I think it speaks a lot to the time we are in right now as androgyny is a two-way street.”

Shields added the friendship between Haynes and Rickards made it “very easy” for them to push the boundaries during the shoot. “They were not afraid to give me everything they had,” he said.

“With Colton and Emily it was perfect. You could really feel they knew each other and trusted each other, and that was amazing.”
