Colombia legalises same-sex marriage

By Fabio Crispim

Earlier this month we reported that Colombia’s high court were paving away for equality and now, almost one month later, same-sex marriage has been legalised.

Colombia follows other countries like Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay that all allow same-sex couples to marry.

Gays Star News reports that six of the nine judges approved the ruling and same-sex couples were previously allowed to form civil partnerships but now, after the new ruling, it allows them the same rights as opposite-sex couples.

The ruling states that, “All people are free to choose independently to start a family in keeping with their sexual orientation… receiving equal treatment under the constitutional order and the law.”
