David Cameron and Ed Miliband have sent messages of support to revellers ahead of Brighton Pride this Saturday (Aug 2).

The Prime Minister wrote an open letter in which he reiterated his support for LGBT equality in the UK, while the Labour leader recorded a video in which he praised Brighton & Hove as a “fantastic city”.

“I am proud of this country’s record of advancing LGBT equality and rights,” Cameron wrote.

“It was a truly momentous occasion seeing the first same-sex couples getting married on March 29, including those marriages that took place in Brighton that weekend. The Pride festival is an excellent opportunity to bring people from different communities together to enjoy not only a colorful and entertaining day out but a whole program of cultural, social and sporting events.”

Labour leader Ed Miliband, who appeared on the cover of Attitude earlier this year, said: “Brighton & Hove is a fantastic city, and Pride is a moment when we see it in its great diversity, its tolerance and its celebration of equality.

“I know we’ve got a lot further to go; much more to do to counter homophobic and transphobic bullying in schools, violence against gayus an lesbians and internationally, where so many gays and lesbians fin themselves persecuted for their sexual orientation.

“Have a fantastic Pride,” he added.

Brighton Pride festival takes place this Saturday (Aug 2), and will feature performances from Neon Jungle, Blue, Katy B and more. For more information visit the Brighton Pride website.
