Anne Hathaway and Julianne Moore and more to boycott Georgia
HB 757, also known as the ‘pastor protection act’ is sitting on Governor Nathan Deal’s desk and is waiting to be signed. He has until May 3rd to veto or sign it. The bill, originally described as a measure to protect pastors who refuse to perform same-sex weddings can now allow hospitals to refuse treatment to people based on race, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity. Producers, Directors, Actors and Writers state that they would “take our business elsewhere” if the bill is signed into law. This comes after Human Rights Campaign (HRC) president Chad Griffin urged Hollywood to pack up and stop producing films there if the bill is signed in a letter. The letter, written by the HRC, notes that 248 films and TV shows were filmed in Atlanta, Georgia and it’s known as the “Hollywood of the South”. Celebrities including Matt Bomer, Dustin Lance Black, Ryan Murphy, Julianne Moore, Anne Hathaway, Seth McFarlane and more support the HRC. Yesterday, Marvel and Disney became the latest companies to boycott the bill.
