Alex Pettyfer reveals nasty feud with ‘Magic Mike’ co-star Channing Tatum

By Will Stroude

Perhaps shedding light on why he didn’t return to the franchise for this year’s sequel, Magic Mike star Alex Pettyfer has revealed that he had a nasty on-set fallout with co-star Channing Tatum during the first movie’s production.

The 25-year-old confirmed rumours of a feud between the pair during an interview with Bret Easton Ellis for his B.E.E. podcast yesterday (December 1), where he admitted that Tatum categorically “does not like” him – but that he might have himself to blame.

“Channing Tatum does not like me,” Pettyfer said. “For many reasons. Many being my own fault.”

The Stormbreaker star said he believed that Tatum – who had invested some his own money in the movie – hadn’t wanted him to be cast from the outset, following rumours of his Pettyfer’s ‘bad boy’ Hollywood behaviour.

“I had a very negative past relating to the things that I had done on movies and promotion of movies. And Channing Tatum is an extraordinarily smart businessman,” he explained. “I think he probably didn’t want to get into a conflict with Steven and so I was cast.”

Pettyfer says that initial unease quickly spilled over to the movie set.

“I didn’t speak on the movie [set]. I was scared to speak”, he continued. “I did my work and then I sat in the corner and listened to music because I’d been told that anything I do was wrong by my reps and I was very insecure as a human being.

“That also gave me a bad rep because they said, ‘Oh Alex thinks he’s fucking better than everybody else because he doesn’t speak to anyone.’ And that’s not true. I was genuinely nervous and scared to be myself.”

Pettyfer went on to explain that the pair’s already rocky relationship took a turn for the worst after he began renting a room from one of Tatum’s friends and ended up owing four months of unpaid rent.

“I all of a sudden got a very negative email from Channing, rightfully so, saying, ‘Don’t fuck my friends. You owe money. Pay the fucking money. Don’t be a clown.'”

Pettyfer claims that he’d simply forgotten to pay the rent following the unexpected death of his cousin, but after being hounded by his roommate eventually refused to pay it at all. When the Magic Mike cast reunited for some last minute re-shoots some time later, the atmosphere around him had worsened again.

“[Channing] had already told everyone he didn’t like me,” he explained. “And what Channing says goes because he’s a movie star. He’s incredible. He’s done so well for himself.”

Now now boys, can’t you just just kiss and make up? Preferably with tongue.

Meanwhile, if you want to refresh your memory of the flesh-filled franchise’s GIF-based best bits, why not mosey on over here and relive the boys performances in all their glory.

And while Alex might have missed out on Magic Mike XXL this summer, that hasn’t stopped him from stripping off for different reasons – namely Mario Testino’s Towel Series’, which you can check out here.
