Pop star Will Young is swapping his microphone for dog treats this summer, instead of a concert tour, he will be delivering thousands of cans of dog food to struggling rescue centres across the UK this September.

The singer, who co-founded dog food brand Miraculous Meals in 2023, has announced a ‘Miraculous Meals Road Trip’ that will see him donate £50,000 worth of food to frontline canine charities.

The initiative comes as rescue centres face rising costs, falling adoption rates and an increasing number of dogs needing care.

“Rescuing my own dog made me realise how urgent this crisis really is” – Will Young on the importance of his Miraculous Meals Road Trip

Young, who rescued his own dog, Domino, said the project is deeply personal to him in an exclusive statement to Attitude: “Rescuing my own dog made me realise how urgent this crisis really is. So many people want to do more to help, but don’t know where to start. That’s why Miraculous Meals is so special. With 50% of profits going to rescue centres, we’re giving people a simple way to make a real difference.”

At Birmingham Dogs Home, it costs around £150 per week to care for each dog, with the statistic climbing higher for those needing medical attention. With reportedly 240 dogs in their kennels at a time, the charity says the costs are “overwhelming.”

Nationwide, the RSPCA recorded 48,814 neglect reports in 2024, a 25% increase, while adoption rates have fallen by a third since 2019.

“It’s heartbreaking to see rescue centres under such strain” – Young on dog rescue centres struggle for funding

The ‘Leave Right Now’ singer added: “It’s heartbreaking to see rescue centres under such strain, which is why we created Miraculous Meals – to turn something as simple as feeding your dog into a lifeline for others.

“I’m really proud to be setting off across the UK to help raise awareness and to deliver food to the incredible teams working tirelessly to give rescue dogs the second chance they deserve.”

Vanessa Wadden, CEO at Hope Rescue, welcomed the donation: “This donation will feed every dog in our care for a significant amount of time. It’s a huge relief at a time when costs are spiralling and demand for our help has never been greater.”

The Miraculous Meals Road Trip kicks off 15 September at Birmingham Dogs Home, with stops across Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Hungerford and South Wales.
