Determined to break out of a recipe rut – and ditch the takeaways – Attitude fitness expert Matt Lister reviews HelloFresh, the world’s first carbon-neutral meal-kit company.

After sampling five easy-to-prepare HelloFresh dishes, Matt gives his take on the delicious result…

Chicken & Plum Noodle Stir-Fry with Mangetout

I don’t know that I’ve ever fried up fruits to add to a stir-fry but I’m sold. When I was much younger it would have been the perfect solution to sneaking an extra one of my five-a-days in.

Slathered in rich tangy plum sauce, cut through with some mangetout (one of my favourite veggies). I inhaled this one, and only managed to wear a little of it across my face and in my beard in the process.

Pork with Mustardy Creamy Lentils

Out of all of the recipes I love that this one is easily replicated if you don’t get your hands on it again (And there’s much less washing up from this one too).

No sachets of obscure spices needed, just a pot of mustard and some chicken stock powder and the flavour is EVERYTHING! It’s like a really warm squeeze on a cold winter evening from some gorgeous French cuisine.

Szechuan Glazed Pork Meatballs with Noodles and Crispy Shallots

Whenever I’ve tried to make meatballs by myself, no matter whatever binding agents I use, they seem to fall apart… not today!

My balls were perfect, so moist and juicy, teamed together with the crunchy veggies and topped with the crisp shallots, I was shook at how well it went.

Having all those elements thought out and balanced for me made it possibly my favourite dish from HelloFresh, so far!

Jalfrezi-Style Chicken Curry with Jasmine Rice and Naan

Whenever I go for a curry, Jalfrezi is one of my go to choices. I’m from Leeds, which is basically the curry capital of the UK, so already my standards were high, and to be honest, my expectations were low.

It’s so difficult to beat the flavours a real Indian kitchen produces, but I have landed firmly on my ass being proven completely wrong by this offering.

I couldn’t fault it, and because there was so much in the portion, there were leftovers which tasted even better the next day! Hats off to you Hello Fresh!

Lamb and Aubergine Curry with Basmati Rice and Coriander

I love curry. There, I said it. What I love about this one in particular, is that after you bake the aubergine, you just have to throw the rest of the ingredients all together in a pan and you make magic.

Restaurant quality food, but cheaper, and from the comfort of your own home. I would say you can’t put a price on that, but HelloFresh have – as well as thrown in convenience and value to boot – so now they can have all my money so long as they keep producing grub like this.
