There are plenty of reasons to make Chicago your next city break. The Windy City has a lively gaybourhood, Boystown, to explore, there is the shoreline of Lake Michigan for adventure seekers and it is the starting point for an epic road trip down the infamous Route 66.

A growing number of the hottest hotel brands are opening up shop in the Chicago, here are our top three…

MOXY CHICAGO DOWNTOWN

The Moxy hotel brand is expanding at a rate of knots, with 46 hotels worldwide and a further 24 opening in 2019. Chicago got their first Moxy last year, and it stays true to the brand’s vibrant fun seekers vibe.

The lobby, or ‘Living Room’, has a bar instead of a check-in desk and plenty of classic board games, as well as some cheekier adult games, for guests to play.

Its River North location is populated with America’s largest concentration of art galleries and is also brimming with restaurants and nightclubs, but you would be amiss to skip a custom cocktail at Bar Moxy or the hotel’s 24/7 taco to-go joint, Zombie Taco.

Guests can jam to one of the hotel’s collection of vinyl records or take advantage of the noise-eliminating podcast booth featuring state-of-the-art recording equipment.

Those looking to go wild can employ the makeover services of local drag queen Mikki Miraj, which come with a bottle booze and ticket to the legendary Baton Show Lounge.

When you need to get away from all the excitement, escape to one of the 156 rooms. The rooms evoke minimalist cool with a mix of cool greys on the bedding and walls, black clothes railings and fittings and the occasional pop of colour.

The rooms utilise every inch of space and still manage to fit in 49-inch Smart TVs for streaming your favourite shows. It is the hotel to stay at if you want to get the party started early.

THE HOXTON CHICAGO

Since opening its first hotel in London’s Shoreditch over a decade ago, the Hoxton has taken its time expanding. There are now six locations across Europe and America, with Chicago’s elected location to open in April 2019.

The hotel is in the Fulton Market District, which was once an industrial area but now attracts creatives and is bustling with restaurants. It offers an open-door lobby culture, meaning the hotel is always abuzz with activity.

For a more intimate space, head down to the hotel’s dimly-lit piano bar in the basement for cocktails. And keep fit in the fitness studio or head up to the rooftop pool to work on your tan. Guests can also take advantage of the free Wi-Fi, tea, coffee, water and a daily breakfast bag delivered to your door.

The 182 rooms offer a Goldilocks-approach with Snug, Cosy and Roomy room sizes offered. The design honours the building’s industrial past with panelled leather headboards, mid-century-inspired furniture as well as custom wallpaper and bedding.

It is the hipster hotel with the air of sophistication.

ACE HOTEL CHICAGO

The Ace Hotel Chicago is located in the Fulton Market District, right across the street from Google’s Chicago HQ.

The boutique hotel brand, with ten hotels across America and London, has a Mid-century feel throughout and the 159 rooms have a New Bauhaus-style with exposed concrete ceilings, simple timber furniture and steel tube bed frames.

Some rooms come with a record player and if you are lucky there may even be an acoustic guitar hung on the wall in your room. Guests can wake up with a brew from the Stumptown Coffee Roasters counter in the morning and hit the rooftop to indulge at the Waydown cocktail bar and walk the meadow views views of the city’s impressive skyline.

Between times the first floor City Mouse all-day restaurant offers a seasonal shared-plate dinner menu of Midwestern comfort food.
