These LGBT students are stripping off to talk body issues – WATCH

Do you know how to love how you look?

As we celebrate queer bodies of all types in our brand new Body Issue – available to download and in shops now – a new video from National Student Pride features five LGBT students opening up about theirown relationship with their bodies.

The video sees the students strip down to their underwear to talk about their bodies and though they initially appear uncomfortable, they feel empowered by the end of the video.

Student Charlie Ann Mathers, who took part in the video, revealed she was terrified at the idea of stripping off.

She said: “It’s quite nerve-wracking standing in front of a camera rig, lights and a group of people that have never seen you in less than a wooly jumper. But, it was honestly one of the most liberating things I have ever done.”

“By the end of it I was dancing around in my pants, and there were even some happy tears.”

Corey Wiseman, another student who participated, found describing his favourite body part liberating.

“The thing that I like the most about my body is my collarbones. I’ve said it a million times before, there is no explanation to why I like my collarbones.”

Corey revealed he used to be “obsessed” with his weight, but says he was able to overcome this by “exposure therapy.”

“Whenever I got out the shower or in my boxers in front a mirror, I’ll just look at myself. And accept that what I see is me, and I’ve got to love it. You can’t spend your whole life hating something that you can’t really change,” he says.

“Your body is malleable to a degree, but fundamentally it’s not gonna change. So you just gotta get used to it and enjoy what you see in front of the mirror.

“The only way to do that is to look at it and realise, this is me and I love it regardless of how it looks.”

National Student Pride announced today new details of an open mic session about body confidence at the annual event in London this weekend (February 10).

It will include guest speakers including gay singer Calum Scott, ITV’s Dr Ranj Singh, Plus size model Aliss Bonython and non-binary YouTuber Roly Ungashaa who will all talk about their bodies.

National Student Pride previously released a video asking if you can tell someone is bisexual just by looking at them.

Celebrity Big Brother winner Courtney Act will attend the event to host a Queer Dates competition on Saturday (February 10). Bisexual activist Lewis Oakley will host a panel of bisexual+ people who will have a discussion about biphobia and bi-erasure.

National Student Pride kicks off February 9-11 at the University of Westminster in London. Buy tickets at studentpride.co.uk.
