Britney Spears to headline Brighton Pride festival 2018

This is not a drill.

By Will Stroude

It’s not called Britain’s biggest Pride festival for nothing, and Brighton Pride organisers have well and truly outdone themselves this year.

Yep, LGBT people across the country will be celebrating the shock news this morning that the legendary Miss Britney Spears is set to headline this year’s show of gay Pride in the seaside Sussex city.

The Princess of Pop will take to the main stage at Preston Park on Saturday 4 August to perform her first UK gig since wrapping up her four-year Las Vegas residency at the end of last year.

In a move that has sparked speculation that new music may not be far away, Brit’s Brighton set will mark the first date of a new Eurpean tour which will see the ‘Piece of Me’ singer perform hits from her record-breaking residency around the continent.

In a statement, Britney said: “I’m so excited to be kicking off my UK tour this summer at Brighton Pride! I guarantee it’s going to be a night to remember and can’t wait to sing and dance with all of my LGBTQ fans.

Undoubtedly the biggest name to be secured by Brighton Pride in the event’s history, Spears’ appearance in Preston Park will come after the annual Pride parade takes place in the city centre earlier in the day.

More artists performing on the Saturday are set to be announced in the coming weeks and months, while Nile Rodgers and Chic have already been confirmed as headliners for LoveBN1 fest, a brand new event set to take place in Preston Park on Sunday 5 August.

Pride Festival tickets are on sale now for £21 – and it goes without saying that they’ll be selling out at record speed following this latest announcement.
