Attitude Icon Award: Erasure

By Will Stroude

Erasure have been honoured with the Icon Award at  The Virgin Holidays Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar. The legendary band was presented with the award by Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw at the star-studded event at London’s Roundhouse on Thursday night (October 12). Thanks in no small part to openly gay singer Andy Bell’s high visibility, Erasure continue to command a loyal queer fanbase 30 years after their first hit album. During the height of hysteria surrounding Aids in the 1980s, Andy was getting up on stage in a tutu and fetish wear to proudly declare his sexuality to huge crowds of people around the world. That’s why they’re the rightful recipients of our Icon Award. Long may they reign. Read more about this year’s winners in the November issue of Attitude. Buy in printsubscribe or download now.
