Orville Peck has revealed he received permission from a Las Vegas Raiders player before referencing their kiss in his song ‘Ring The Bell’.

The country singer discussed the track while speaking to Attitude for his Man of the Year, supported by Virgin Atlantic, cover for the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards 2026, in partnership with M&S and electrified by Polestar.

The song includes a line about Peck making out with a Raiders player. While he did not reveal the athlete’s identity, Peck confirmed that the player knew about the reference before the song was released.

“They feel very honoured. So, he’s in the sort of Orville Peck universe now” – Orville Peck on the Las Vegas Raiders player

The pair remain friends, with Peck saying the player was “very excited” about being mentioned in the song.

“They feel very honoured,” Peck said. “So, he’s in the sort of Orville Peck universe now.”

Peck was discussing his approach to writing about people in his life, explaining that he is protective of those who appear in his songs.

His current partner also features heavily on his forthcoming album Mule, although Peck said he prefers to remain out of the spotlight.

“He’s a big part of this album, which I think he kind of hates in a way because he’s just someone that does not wanna ever be in the spotlight,” Peck said.

“But he’s the biggest fan of my music and my songwriting, and even when the songs are about him and they are maybe moments of songs that don’t sound like they are that nice towards him… he is just so happy that I am an authentic, vulnerable, sensitive person. He tells me that all the time.”

The Raiders reference appears on ‘Ring The Bell’, one of the tracks from Mule, which sees Peck explore his past experiences and journey towards self-acceptance.

The album follows a difficult period in the singer’s life, including his struggles with addiction and substance abuse.
