The Bradley Cooper-led biopic, Maestro, has got its first official trailer and it looks epic.

The film documenting the life of legendary composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein is due to be released on Netflix on 20 December. This will follow a theatrical release on 22 November.

“If summer doesn’t sing in you then nothing sings in you,” Cooper’s Bernstein recounts over images of an older conductor tinkling the ivories on his piano.

“And if nothing sings in you then you can’t make music,” he continues revealing it’s an expression he was told by his wife. We then see Carey Mulligan’s character, Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein, who is framed as one of the central characters.

We also hear Felicia say the same expression towards the end of the trailer.

Bernstein married Felicia in 1951 and the couple had three children together. Bernstein slept with both men and women in his lifetime. He died in October 1990.

“I know exactly who you are,” says Felicia earlier as we see Cooper interact with Matt Bomer’s character, David Oppenheim.

Maestro also stars Maya Hawke, Sarah Silverman, Josh Hamilton, Scott Ellis, Gideon Glick, Sam Nivola, Alexa Swinton, and Miriam Shor.

A brief synopsis for the film describes Maestro as a “towering and fearless love story chronicling the lifelong relationship between cultural icon Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein.

“A love letter to life and art, Maestro, at its core, is an emotionally epic portrayal of family and love.”

Earlier this year Netflix released the first-look images from the film.

Maestro will be in select cinemas on 22 November before streaming on Netflix on 20 December.
