June 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots which kickstarted the modern gay movement.

And to celebrate the gay liberation movement, the new documentary Are You Proud? is set to be released in UK cinemas on July 26.

Directed by Ashley Joiner, Are You Proud? brings together rare archive footage and interviews from across a spectrum of historical campaigns to celebrate the movement’s landmark achievements.

Ashley said: “Are You Proud? is the film I needed to see when I was a child, and as a young gay man coming out.

“Making this film has emboldened me to continue the fight that so many have fought before me, and I hope that it encourages others to do the same.”

A number of well-known organisations including Gay Pride, the Gay Liberation Front and Stonewall are just some that the documentary recognises.

The documentary, however, doesn’t just look back but it asks tough questions about the future.

Are You Proud? opens in cinemas on July 26 with director Q&A previews running from July 2.
