Watch: The Foo Fighters troll the Westboro Baptist Church

By Micah Sulit

When the extreme right-wing Westboro Baptist Church picketed a Foo Fighters concert in Kansas City, Dave Grohl and the band gave one of the best responses in the age of the internet: They trolled the protesters with a Rick roll.

In case you’ve never heard of Rick rolling, it’s a popular internet meme that tricks people into watching the music video of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up”.

The Foo Fighters pulled up by the Westboro protesters in a pick-up truck, clapping their hands as Astley’s 1987 hit blasted from speakers. The band also held up signs saying “Keep It Clean” and “You Got Rick Roll’d (Again)”.

This isn’t the first time the band clashed with the Westboro Baptist Church. When the notoriously anti-gay group targeted their show in 2011, Dave and co put on a surprise performance of “Keep it Clean (Hot Buns)”, a song about hankering for “hot man muffins”.
