The first two minutes of the upcoming Veronica Mars film have been released online.

The big screen version of the classic teen series starring Kristen Bell was financed by fans on fundraising site Kickstarter last year (2013).

It picks up the action nine years after the end of the TV show and finds the former high school sleuth living in New York City and trying to distance herself from her hometown of Neptune. However, when her ex-boyfriend Logan (Jason Dohring) is accused of murder, she is forced to return home.

Alongside Bell and Dohring, the film stars Krysten Ritter, Jamie Lee Curtis and Ryan Hansen – and James Franco pops up for a cameo appearance.

Veronica Mars originally aired for three seasons between 2004 and 2007 before being axed by US network The CW. Over its run, it developed a sizeable cult following and rumours of a film version had been rife online ever since it was cancelled.

The film will be released digitally on March 14 – the same day it opens in selected cinemas across UK and Ireland. Click here for the full list.
