Footage of Oprah Winfrey’s original chat show audition has been released online.

The clip – which is now over 30 years old – sees Winfrey introducing herself as part of the audition to host a new Chicago morning show.

In the footage, she says: “Hi there. My name is Oprah Winfrey. Oprah spelled O-P-R-A-H.”

Winfrey first released the footage during her chat show in 2005, explaining: “I heard that there was a morning show in Chicago that needed a new host.

“I stayed up all night long with an editor [and] sent my audition tape in… I was obsessed with getting this job.”

As well as hosting the award-winning Oprah Winfrey Show – which was the highest-rated programme of its kind in history – she has also worked as an actress, producer, and philanthropist.
