Tributes flood in for David Bowie following the musical icon’s death, aged 69

Tributes have been flooding in for David Bowie following the musical icon’s death yesterday (January 10) at the age of 69.
His son, Duncan Jones, confirmed that the ‘Starman’ singer had lost an 18-month battle with cancer in a statement issued on Bowie’s social media accounts this morning.
“David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer,” it read.
“While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”
Jones personally confirmed the news on Twitter later, writing: “Very sorry and sad to say it’s true. I’ll be offline for a while. Love to all.”
Bowie’s passing comes less than three days after the release of his 25th studio album, Blackstar, which was written and recorded in the months leading up to his death. His last live performance came almost a decade ago, at a charity performance in 2006.
Fans and fellow stars including Madonna, Kanye West and Marc Almond have been quick to pay tribute to the famously flamboyant performer, who sold an estimated 140 million records worldwide during a musical career spanning six decades.
