Tom Allen has spoken out in praise of Lil Nas X as his favourite LGBTQ musician of the year ahead of next week’s Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar.

The TV star is presenting the awards ceremony, which celebrates the great and good of the LGBTQ community. The event takes place at London’s Camden Roundhouse on Wednesday 6 October 2021.

Speaking at the launch of Rolling Stone UK at the Rosewood Hotel in London last night, Allen called Nas’ debut album ‘Montero’ one of the best of the year.

“A brilliant, exuberent voice”

“My favourite artist this year is Lil Nas X,” said the 38-year-old of ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name) singer Nas. “I think he’s a brilliant, exuberant voice.”

Allen – who says he “can’t wait” to present the Attitude Awards – also shared that he’s been listening to a lot of Coldplay and Steps of late. (The latter will be headlining next week’s ceremony with a five-song performance.)

Nas, who is gay, released his debut album ‘Montero’ earlier this month to critical acclaim.

Rolling Stone UK launched in print and online yesterday as a sibling publication to Attitude. The first issue features three cover stars: Bastille, Sam Fender and No Time To Die star Lashana Lynch.

Bastille’s Dan Smith [above, second from right] also spoke to Attitude at last night’s event, highlighting the importance of the culture press in platforming artists’ voices.

“Artists having opinions and speaking truth? That’s more important than ever,” the ‘Things We Lost In the Fire’ and ‘Happier’ singer said. “There are as many reasons if not more as there have ever been in terms of what’s happening in the world – climate, politics.”
