‘The Inheritance’ has landed eight Olivier Award 2019 nominations including Best New Play

The LGBTQ epic has nabbed nods for Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress in a Supporting Role

By Steve Brown

The Inheritance has landed eight Olivier Awards nominations including Best New Play.

The LGBTQ epic transferred to the West End after a sell-out run at the Young Vic and has been praised across the board but now the hit Matthew Lopez’s production has landed multiple Olivier Award nominations.

Although it’s not the production leading the number of nominations, the show has nabbed nods for Best Director for Stephen Daldry, Best Actor for Kyle Soller and Best Actress in a Supporting Role for the legend Vanessa Redgrave.

It’s also up for Best Set Design, Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design and Outstanding Achievement in Music.

However, it’s the West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s classic musical Company that is leading the prestigious award nominations with a total of 9 alongside Come From Away, which features two gay characters.

The gender-bending reimagining has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress which will see Redgrave go up against theatre icon Patti LuPone.#

It has also been nominated twice for Best Supporting Actor for Jonathan Bailey and Richard Fleeshman and Best Actress in a Musical for leading lady Rosalie Craig.

As well as Best Musical Revival, Best Theatre Choreographer, Best Lighting Design, Best Set Design and Best Director.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Royal Albert Hall in London on April 7.
