And original stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy could all appear

Rumours of a Hocus Pocus sequel have been around for years but it appears we are getting closer and closer to finally seeing the Sanderson Sisters once again.

Last year, it was reported that a follow-up to the 1993 Halloween classic is in the initial stages of development after Disney hired Workaholics writer Jen D’Angelo to pen a script, Deadline reported.

D’Angelo is said to have been tasked with finding a way to bring back original stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy for the sequel – and we have everything crossed for their return.

And now, Adam Shankman – who directed Hairspray – has been hired to helm the upcoming sequel set to land on Disney’s new streaming site Disney+.

Posting on Instagram, Shankman – who will also be directed another Disney sequel Disenchated, a follow-up to the Amy Adams-starring Enchanted – wrote: “Yep…. Thanks with all of my heart dear @disney

“Looks like Il be working on a looooooottttt of magic for awhile… I feel incredibly honored and humbled to be guiding forward these two Disney crown jewel legacies.

“My only hope is to honor those who came before me and build something new and exciting, as I desperately try to not let down the fans and enchant the new initiates! Fingers crossed! Xo”

Midler, Parker and Najimy have all previously expressed interest in returning to the franchise – in particular Midler, who has been pretty much been campaigning for it online over the last few years.

Looks like your spells worked Bette. Bring on the Sanderson Sister reunion!
