Spice Girls GEM reunion track ‘Song for Her’ has leaked online

By Will Stroude

Spice Girls fans have been sent into a frenzy after the first new material from the band (or three-fifths of it, at least) in almost a decade started doing the rounds on social media yesterday (November 22).

Bombastic new track ‘Song for Her’ – recorded by Geri Horner, Emma Bunton and Mel B under the moniker ‘GEM’ after Victoria Beckham and Mel C turned down the chance of a full reunion – originally leaked online earlier this year.

Featuring lyrics such as “She’s got that boom boom pop / something they can’t stop”, it sounds like a potential FIFA World Cup song… from 2010. We LOVE.

While we can’t publish the track ourselves, it’s not too hard to find on the World Wide Web. Unfortunately however, Emma Bunton has already shot down our hopes that ‘Song For Her’ could be the first single proper of the Spice Girls – sorry, GEM’s – comeback.

Reacting to the original leak back in July, Baby Spice said: “You know, us girls love creating stuff. We went and had a laugh in the studio. It’s not a single, it’s just we were creating.”

“It’s just a demo and somehow it has got out there.”

While GEM are yet to reveal any official reunion plans beyond their initial announcement earlier this summer, Mel B recently confirmed that a live tour is very much still on the cards.

Obviously the only question now is, will Posh and Sporty be singing along to ‘Song for Her’ from the front row? We’ll let you be the judge.

Meanwhile, you can find our more about Mel C’s thoughts on her ex-bandmates’ mini reunion (and boy does she have some) in our current December issue, available to download and in shops now.
