Shania Twain set to release new album in time for 50th birthday

By Nick Bond

Country-pop queen Shania Twain has heralded her return to music – some 13 years after her last studio album.

Appearing on US television to announce what she says will be her final tour, Twain said that she wants to release a new album before when turns 50 – which happens on August 28 of this year. She also debuted this new publicity image for the tour, which shows that at 49, she’s still looking pretty damn good:

Cheryl Cole, is that you?

“I’m working on the new record as we speak. I’m on the microphone every day recording. That will be coming up after the tour. I want to enjoy that party and then I’ll get back to the record. I want it to come out when I’m 50, so I’m going to make it happen.”

How is Shania Twain about to hit the big 5-0? We suddenly feel very old. While she’s been very quiet in recent years, aside from her Las Vegas residency, Twain was responsible for one of the biggest-selling albums of all time, 1997’s Come On Over.

Could her new album come close to that record’s incredible 40 million in sales? Who knows, but we just hope she’s got a few new camp country tunes in the vein of That Don’t Impress Me Much and Man! I Feel Like A Woman! up her sleeve.
