Scream season 3 to introduce gay character

By Will Stroude

Scream

‘s upcoming third season is set to introduce a brand new gay character.

The rebooted MTV show, which based on the classic slasher film franchise, will include an openly gay high school student when it returns to US TV screens next year with an all-new cast and setting.

According to TV Line, producers are currently casting for the role of Manny, an openly gay high school senior descrived  as “smart as hell, even if he hasn’t quite found his place in life yet.”

They added: “Unfortunately, the outsider’s quest to find himself — as well as his desire to keep the few friends he has — will land him in the crosshairs of a killer.”

The character’s creation comes as producers aim to make the six-episode third season of the teen horror series the show’s most diverse yet.

The gang of terrorised teens at the centre of the first two seasons, lead by Willa Fitzgerald’s popular high schooler Emma Duval, have been replaced by an all-new cast of characters and a brand new mystery.

Rappers Tyga and CJ Wallace already cast in two of the main roles, while Queen Latifah has been added as an executive producer for the series, which will premiere in March 2018.
