In an interview with Rolling Stone, Johansson named Grimes, the Bangles and the Go-Go’s as their influences, describing their material as “super-pop dance music”.

“I wanted it to be like those bands: ultra-pop but also a little ironic, a little in on the joke,” she explained.

The project follows Johansson’s 2008 debut solo album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, which featured her take on a collection of Tom Waits songs.

TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek, who produced the album, reunited with the star to produce ‘Candy’.
