Scarlett Johansson’s new girl group The Singles premiere first track ‘Candy’

By Ryan Love

Scarlett Johansson’s new girl group has premiered their first track ‘Candy’ online.

The actress formed The Singles with Haim star Este Haim, Holly Miranda, Kendra Morris and Julia Haltigan.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Johansson named Grimes, the Bangles and the Go-Go’s as their influences, describing their material as “super-pop dance music”.

“I wanted it to be like those bands: ultra-pop but also a little ironic, a little in on the joke,” she explained.

The project follows Johansson’s 2008 debut solo album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, which featured her take on a collection of Tom Waits songs.

TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek, who produced the album, reunited with the star to produce ‘Candy’.
