Ryan Murphy will donate 100% of his profits from ‘Pose’ to LGBT charities
The upcoming FX show is set to make LGBT television history
Ryan Murphy is set to make LGBT television history with his new FX show Pose, and he’s just made a huge announcement.
Pose, set in 1980s New York, looks at ball culture in New York City and examines the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York City along with the rise of Donald Trump and the downtown social and literary scene.
The American Horror Story co-creator announced on Twitter Wednesday (May 9) that he will donate 100% of his profits from the show to LGBT charities.
He wrote: “I am donating 100 percent of my profits from my new FX show POSE towards trans and LGBTQ charitable organisations.
“These groups do amazing work and need our support. Every day for the next 14 days I will highlight a group I’m supporting, and encourage you to do the same!”
In a series of other tweets, Murphy revealed which charities he may donate to, one being the Sylvia Rivera Law Project.

He explained: “The Sylvia Rivera Law Project. SRLP works to guarantee that all people are free to self-determine gender identity and expression, regardless of income or race, and without facing harassment, discrimination or violence.”

In another two tweets, Murphy touched on some more charities he was considering.
He wrote: “POSE GIVES BACK ORG OF THE DAY: THE PETER CICCHINO YOUTH PROJECT. This amazing organisation offers free and non-judgemental civil legal services to homeless & street-involved youth (disproportionally, youth of colours or immigrants) whom identify as LGBTQ.”

In an interview with Variety, Murphy explained the why he’ll be donating his profits.
He said: “We’ve entered this area of television as advocacy, and I’ve seen the difference you can make in people’s lives by showing up for them, caring for them, and helping them in any way that you can.”
Murphy’s announcement was met with support on praise over social media, and many followers even suggested charities to work with.
The upcoming show will feature Evan Peters, Kate Mara and James Van Der Beek as well as trans actors MJ Rodriguez, Indya Moore, Dominique Jackson, Hailie Sahar and Angelica Ross.
The show will premiere on Sunday, June 3 in the US on FX. There’s been no news of a UK air date.
