Ryan Murphy to turn Broadway musical ‘The Prom’ into a Netflix movie
The 'American Horror Story' creator took to Instagram to reveal the news

Ryan Murphy has announced his latest project – a movie adaptation of the hit musical The Prom for Netflix.
The American Horror Story and Glee creator attended a charity performance of the hit Broadway musical which follows a teen in a same-sex relationship who wants to attend their school’s prom, but are not allowed to.
After the performance – which was attended by the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker, Glenn Close and Gus Kenworthy – Murphy reportedly told the Hollywood Reporter: “I wish this show was around when I was a kid.
“I protested by wearing six-inch yellow platform boots. I cried at the end from pure joy, which has not happened to me since Patti LuPone was the flower girl at my wedding.”
He then took to Instagram to reveal that he will be adapting the show for a Netflix movie.
He wrote: “THE PROM is one of the most uplifting, heartfelt and special musicals I have ever seen on Broadway.
“It’s truly an original that celebrates the underdog and says in a loving spectacular way that LGBTQ rights are human rights.
“I feel a special connection to it because it’s set in Indiana, and that’s where I grew up, too.
“I’m thrilled to announce I’m turning it into a MOVIE EVENT for Netflix, and I’m bringing producers @billdamaschke and @dori.berinstein and the amazing creative team with me — Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw, Tony Award winner Bob Martin, Tony award nominee @sklarbar73 and Tony Award nominee @Chadbeg.
