One Direction’s Harry Styles to star in ‘Wicked’ movie?

One Direction’s Harry Styles is “top of the wish list” to play the male lead in the movie version of Wicked, according to a new report.
A film adaptation of the long-running stage musical has been in the works since 2004 but following the success of the Les Misérables movie, Universal Pictures chairman Adam Fogelson said last year (2013) that the studio is working towards bringing Wicked to the big screen “sooner rather than later”.
Now The Sun is reporting that Styles is being lined up to play Fiyero, the love interest of Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West.
“Harry is very focused on his singing career but there’s a real buzz about him. Movie makers see him as a new Zac Efron and think he would be a perfect casting for a movie musical,” a source apparently told the tabloid
“He’s top of the Wicked team’s wish list to play the romantic lead role of Fiyero – who becomes The Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz.”
Actors who have played Fiyero in West End and Broadway productions of Wicked include Matt Willis, Ben Freeman, Adam Garcia, Taye Diggs and Justin Guarini – while Adam Lambert was once understudy for the part.
