Nick Jonas: ‘I don’t think of myself as a gay icon’

By Will Stroude

Nick Jonas might have become an inescapable facet of gay life over the last year, but he insists that simply reaching out to his LGBT fanbase doesn’t make him a gay icon.

The Scream Queens star – who recently refuted accusations that his frequent shirtless antics and various gay TV roles are simply ‘gay-baiting’ – got all dolled up for L’Uomo Vogue’s December 2015 issue, where he discussed the queer direction his career has taken.

“It’s an honor, but I don’t think of myself as an icon,” the 23-year-old tells the publication. “There should be a lot more straight artists who don’t have a problem with having gay fans.

“I’m really proud to play gay characters and I’ll continue to do so. I think it’s among the challenges of maturing as an actor.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Nick also reveals plans his desire to tread the boards on Broadway once again, and discusses his upcoming support slot on Demi Lovato’s upcoming world tour, after he controversially replaced Ghost Town singer Adam Lambert at the eleventh hour.

“I’m so happy to share the stage with Demi, we’ve been friends forever,” he says. “And I’m very pleased about the work done on the new album, it has more of a soul/R&B sound than the previous ones.”

While Nick might insist he ain’t no gay-baiter, the boy proved he sure is a tease last month after he refusing to deny to that he’d experimented sexually with men in the past – click here to find out more.
