Gay presenter Evan Davis has been nominated for Journalist of the Year at the 2014 European Diversity Awards.

The Newsnight host – the successor to Jeremy Paxman – has been recognised for his embodiment of diversity in his career and personal life.

He has been nominated for the award alongside BBC investigative reporter Guy Lynn, and renowned basketball player Ade Adepitan.

Reuters reporter Carmel Crimmins, and Paraiac O’Brien, who was the first journalist on the ground at the Brixton riots, have also been nominated.

Awards founder, Linda Riley, said: “The success each of these individuals have enjoyed demonstrate not only the media’s growing awareness of the importance of diversity but also the public’s engagement in it.

“The awards are about rewarding and shining a light on those who really stand out. One way or another all of those on our shortlist do just that.”

Out BBC newsreader Jane Hill will host the 2014 European Diversity Awards, which take place on October 2 – read more here.
