Harry Styles is caught in a passionate gay romance in the latest trailer for his film, My Policeman.

Amazon dropped the official trailer for the film on Wednesday (7 September) and it shows the ‘As It Was’ singer as policeman Tom engaging in a passionate romance with his friend, Patrick (David Dawson)

At the beginning of the trailer, things seem merry with plenty of smiles all around as Tom leads a toast “to all of us” with Patrick and Marion (Emma Corrin)

Tom and Marion’s relationship is the focus in the early part of the trailer where the two are seen swimming together and then getting married. Meanwhile, Tom and Patrick share the occasional lingering stare.

Things begin to shift as one scene sees Patrick gently reach out and touch Tom’s arm as we hear Patrick say: “I pity people who don’t know what it feels like to be this in love”.

The two are then seen passionately kissing in a hallway as they embark on a dangerous affair during the 1950s set part of the film, a time when homosexuality was still illegal.

Danger increases as Marion realises what’s going on and pleads with Tom that Patrick is trying to “destroy our marriage”.

The trailer also gives us our first look at Linus Roache, Gina McKee, and Rupert Everett who play older versions of Tom, Marion, and Patrick in scenes set in the 1990s.

In August the film’s cast received the prestigious acting award, the TIFF Tribute Award for Performance from the Toronto International Film Festival, where the film is set to premiere later this month.

The film is based on Bethan Roberts’ 1950s-set novel of the same name.

Styles recently received flack after saying, “So much of gay sex in film is two guys going at it, and it kind of removes the tenderness from it.” He said he and director, Michael Grandage, wanted to “show that it’s tender and loving and sensitive.”

This irked people who called on Harry to watch queer content which more often than not features on tender demonstrations of love between gay men.

My Policeman will be released in cinemas across the US and UK on 21 October and will then be available to stream worldwide on 4 November.

The Attitude September/October issue is out now.
