Mum calls gay bar for advice after her son comes out

The bartender has gone viral after sharing the sweet conversation

By Fabio Crispim

A bartender has gone viral after revealing a touching moment between her and a complete stranger.

Kara Coley, who works at Sipps gay bar in Gulfport, Mississippi, was surprised when she received a phone call from a mother asking for advice.

According to Coley, the mother’s son had just come out and the woman wanted advice on what to do because she didn’t want to say “anything that may mess him up in the head.”

Coley took to Facebook on last Friday (January 19) to share the full conversation, she wrote: “So I just got the most random phone call at the bar tonight!”

Me: “Good evening thank you for calling Sipps!”

Lady on the phone: “Is this a gay bar?”

Me: “Well we are a everybody bar but yes mostly gay.

Lady: “Can I ask you a question?”

Me: “Sure”

Lady: “Are you gay?”

Me: “Yes Ma’am.”

The conversation continued and quickly got personal:

Lady: “What was the one thing thing you wanted from your parents when you came out? My son just came out to me and I don’t want to say anything that may mess him up in the head.”

Me: “Well, I think that you should just make sure he knows that you love and accept, wait, do you accept it?”

Lady: “Well, umm, yes if that’s what he wants.”

Me: “You should definitely let him know that you love and accept him! I think everything will be ok from there!”

Lady: “Okay well, thank you.”

Me: “You are very welcome and good luck!”

At the end of the post Coley added: “17 years of bartending in gay bars on the coast! That’s definitely a first for me!”

The post has since gained over 100 shares and over 1,000 likes.
