Miley Cyrus: ‘Coming out was hard’

By Will Stroude

Miley Cyrus has opened up about her sexuality and coming out process, revealing her own mother found it “hard… to understand”.

After revealing to the world that not all of her past relationships had been “straight, heterosexual” ones last month (May), the Wrecking Ball singer has now opened up further about her sexual preferences.

In the new issue of Paper Magazine, she reveals: “I am literally open to every single thing that is consenting and doesn’t involve an animal and everyone is of age. Everything that’s legal, I’m down with.

Sharing her views on gender conformity, the 22-year-old says, “Yo, I’m down with any adult – anyone over the age of 18 who is down to love me. I don’t relate to being boy or girl, and I don’t have to have my partner relate to boy or girl.”

The former Disney star also discussed how coming out at 14 was difficult for her mother Tish to get her head around.

“I remember telling her I admire women in a different way. And she asked me what that meant. And I said, I love them. I love them like I love boys,” she says.

“And it was so hard for her to understand. She didn’t want me to be judged and she didn’t want me to go to hell. But she believes in me more than she believes in any god. I just asked for her to accept me. And she has.”

Last month, the singer shared her dislike for labels in an interview with Time Magazine, saying: “I’m not hiding my sexuality. For me, I don’t want to label myself as anything.”

The full interview is available in the latest issue of Paper magazine, out next week.
