Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has confirmed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will introduce its first transgender character ‘very soon’.

After a decade of the MCU, fans have been pleading with the film studio to finally introduce an LGBTQ superhero and Feige confirmed that the new film The Eternals will have an openly gay character.

The Eternals – which is one of Marvel’s lesser known series – are a species of humans who were created to be the defenders of Earth, which lead to the inevitability of war against their destructive counterparts, the Deviants.

During San Diego Comic Con last year, the entire cast of the new MCU superheroes were revealed and includes the likes of Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani and Brian Tyree Henry.

Last year, footage screened at CCXP 2019 revealed that Brian Tyree Henry’s character Phastos was seen holding hands with a male partner and two kids – making him the first out superhero in the franchise.

And now, while speaking at the New York Film Academy, Feige was asked whether the MCU will introduce a transgender superhero.

Feige then replied: “Yes, absolutely yes. Very soon, in a movie, we’re shooting right now, yes.”

Although not specifying which movie the character will appear in, The Eternals is currently the only Marvel project in the middle of filming.
