executive producer Mark Gatiss has revealed that he has received “incredibly graphic” fan fiction which imagines a gay romance between Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.

The co-creator of the BBC series said that he hasn’t “tried half the things” that fans of the show include in their stories.

He said: “Oh my God. I get sent things that would make your hair turn white.

“It’s not just Sherlock and Watson holding hands on a park bench, I can tell you that.

“Some of them are incredibly graphic but my goodness I’ve not tried half the things they’re doing,” he told Australia’s DNA magazine.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman star as Sherlock and Watson in the series, which last aired new episodes in January.

It was recently confirmed that the BBC series will return with a special episode and a three-episode fourth series in 2015 – read more here.

The first trailer for Cumberbatch’s Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game debuted last week – watch the trailer for the film here.
