Madonna is making a statement with the release of the video for her ‘Frozen’ remix with Sickick and Fireboy DML.

After days of hyping up the visual on social media with teasers from the shoot, the Queen of Pop, 63, dropped the finished product on Thursday (10 March), almost a week after the track’s initial release.

The video sees Madonna typically coolly confident as she smokes and dances with Nigerian rapper Fireboy DML, who has added his own verse to the song.

‘Frozen (Fireboy DML Remix)’ marks Madonna’s first single since she appeared alongside Missy Elliott and The Blessed Madonna on a remix of Dua Lipa’s ‘Levitating’ back in 2020.

The original version of ‘Frozen’ was released in February 1998 as the lead single from Madonna’s seventh studio album Ray of Light. A remix by Sickick last year quickly went viral on TikTok, prompting the new official reworking.

Co-written with Patrick Leonard and producer by William Orbit, ‘Frozen’ was widely acclaimed upon its original release, topping the UK Singles Chart and peaking at Number Two on the US Billboard Hot 100.

In a retrospective to mark Ray of Light‘s 20th anniversary in 2018, Matthew Barton wrote for Attitude that ‘Frozen’s “majestic, desolate string arrangement… recalls Björk’s 1997 LP Homogenic in its lush, romantic drama.”

He added: “Twenty years later it’s still a rush to recall how fresh, different, and unexpected this song was.”
