Madonna just shut down her ageist haters in one fell swoop
Madonna made headlines around the world this week when she showed up to Met Gala 2016 dressed up in an outfit that only Madonna could wear.
The controversial singer shocked some with a sheer Givenchy gown revealing her breasts and buttocks – but following the predictable cries of ‘cover up!’, the 57-year-old Queen of Pop has cut her detractors off at the knees with a powerful message on Instagram.
“We have fought and continue to fight for civil rights and gay rights around the world. When it comes to Women’s rights we are still in the dark ages,” she wrote.
“My dress at the Met Ball was a political statement as well as a fashion statement. The fact that people actually believe a woman is not allowed to express her sexuality and be adventurous past a certain age is proof that we still live in an age-ist and sexist society. I have never thought in a limited way and I’m not going to start.”
The Rebel Heart singer added: “If you have a problem with the way I dress it is simply a reflection of your prejudice”.
Staying true to her four decades of unapologetic female empowerment, she also encouraged women of all ages to not be afraid of expressing themselves, saying “the definition of freedom is being fearless.”
And fearless Madonna certainly is. Here’s to the the decades of eye-popping looks still to come.
