The first full-length trailer for Love Victor is here, and our heart is already fit to burst.

The TV spin-off of 2018’s feel-good teen drama Love, Simon, is set in the same high school, Creekwood High, and centers around Victor Salazar (Michael Cimino) a 16-year-old new kid in town who is struggling to come to terms with his sexuality.

The trailer teases Victor’s written exchanges with Simon (Nick Robinson), who will also narrate the 10-part series, and it’s clear that the stakes in this coming out story are high.

“You’re very lucky, Simon, for having the world’s most perfect, accepting friends, supportive friends. For some of us, it’s not that easy,” Victor says.

The trailer also teases appearances from Love, Simon star Keiynan Lonsdale, who played Bram Greenfeld, as well as 13 Reasons Why’s Tommy Dorfman and RuPaul’s Drag Race legend Katya.

Love, Victor is set to premiere in the US on 19 June on Hulu after controversially being bumped from Disney+ over its supposed ‘adult themes’.

The move sparked concern that LGBTQ content was effectively being censored from Disney+, though the platform was defended by Love, Simon author Becky Albertalli herself, who insisted the move was motivated by scenes of underage drinking rather than same-sex kisses.

Whatever the true reason for the move, the unfortunate consequence for UK viewers is that Hulu isn’t available on these shores, unlike Disney+.

Here’s hoping the show eventually finds its way on to a more global platform so more can enjoy Victor’s exploits…
