Lady Gaga has confirmed she’ll be involved in the sequel to 2019’s Joker with a musical tease on social media.

In the short clip uploaded to the ‘Rain On Me’ singer’s Twitter on Thursday (4 August) the song ‘Cheek to Cheek’ can be heard while the words ‘Phoenix’ and ‘Gaga’ appear with silhouettes of each of them before ‘Joker’ appears on screen followed by the two silhouettes coming together.

A laugh can then be heard, possibly referencing the Joker’s iconic laugh, while the title for the Joker sequel, Folie à Deux shows, and the date 10.04.24 (meaning 4 October 2024 given how dates are displayed in the US)

It was reported in June that Gaga was in talks to play the Joker’s unhinged sidekick and love-interest, Harley Quinn and that the sequel to the 2019 film would be a musical.

While this tease doesn’t confirm who Gaga will be playing a massive clue lies in the translation of the film’s title, Joker: Folie à Deux, which (roughly) means ‘shared psychosis.’

Many fans would argue that, logically, this could only be referring to Harley if not Batman, the Joker’s long-time nemesis.

Director Todd Philips announced the project’s title in June.

Joaquin Phoenix’s turn as the eponymous Joker earned him numerous ‘Best Actor’ awards including an Oscar, BAFTA Award, and a Critic’s Choice Movie Award.

Rumours of the ‘Replay’ singer’s casting follow her dramatic turn as Patrizia Reggiani in the 2021 biographical crime drama House of Gucci, as well as Ally in A Star is Born.

The Attitude September/October issue is out now.
