Kylie reunites with SAW for surprise Christmas number 1 bid

UPDATE: THE SONG’S JUST DROPPED! Give it a listen below:

Well, this was unexpected. It seems Kylie Minogue is reuniting with her old pals Stock Aitken Waterman in a surprise bid to secure a Christmas number one single.

The Aussie pop princess is in full festive mode with the recent release of her first Christmas album, the aptly named Kylie Christmas. It hasn’t exactly been a holiday hit of Buble-esque proportions just yet, spending a sole week inside the UK top 20, but Kylie’s got a plan involving her hit making 80s collaborators.

Stock Aitken Waterman have been enlisted to remix one of the album’s best tracks, the Chris Martin-penned Every Day’s Like Christmas, for single release, The Sun reports.

It would mark the first time Minogue has worked with the team behind hits like Better The Devil You Know, I Should Be So Lucky and Hand On Your Heart since her 1991 album Let’s Get To It – and the first time the trio themselves have worked together almost as long.

“The three of us have not done a single for 25 years. We have never fallen out but there was never a purpose where we thought it was worth working together,” Pete Waterman told The Sun.

“I told the others this is what Kylie wants and they said, ‘Let’s do it — return at the top’.”

The Sun reports that Kylie and her record company asked for the song, a sweeping Christmas ballad, to be remixed into something “dead retro” with “nothing modern” remaining.

“It’s a strange question when someone asks, ‘Can you step back in time and make a record you would have made in 1988?’ But of course we can, and Kylie loved it,” Waterman said.

“I did worry about tampering with a Chris Martin song in any way. I wasn’t sure Chris Martin and Stock Aitken Waterman would be easy bedfellows but he said it was fine.”

Give the gorgeous album version a listen below – we can’t wait to hear what SAW have come up with! Will it be enough to give Kylie her first number one single since Slow back in 2003?
