Keegan Allen did some ‘intense’ research for gay porn drama King Cobra

There’s a lot of hype around the long-awaited gay porn Drama King Cobra.
Produced by James Franco, who’s just been awarded OutFest’s James Schamus Ally Award that “honours the efforts of an individual in bringing LGBTQ stories to the forefront”, the film won plenty of unexpected praise at New York’s Tribeca’s film festival when it premiered back in April, and critics assure us we’re in for one arty-minded cinematic treat.
Just as we thought we knew everything there is to know, Keegan Allen, who plays a porn producer and Franco’s onscreen lover in the film, has revealed he put in plenty of research into the gay porn industry before taking on a role as one of the film’s murderous antagonists.
“Everything about this character was completely three-sixty of who I am and my lifestyle. I mean, I didn’t know anything about the gay porn industry going in,” he revealed on the Outfest Los Angeles LGBT festival red carpet.
“I did a lot of research – obviously it was very intense.”
The 27-year-old Pretty Little Liars star continued: “It was kind of beautiful. I really loved my character a lot. And [for] a lot of people, I don’t know how they’re gonna feel about him, but I had to find the love for him.
“It opened my mind a lot about what the guys go through on a personal basis and how much of a struggle it is.”
Meanwhile, fellow King Cobra star Garrett Clayton (Sean Paul Lockhart aka Brent Corrigan in the movie) has also shared his impressions on working on the graphic title.
“It was a lot more artistic than I was expecting it to be, which I really appreciated,’ the former Disney star revealed. “Because it’s such an aggressive movie, I thought it was gonna be a lot more… aggressively shot (…) It’s nerve-racking to go from young adult to extreme adult.”
Inspired by the true story of the murder of gay porn producer and director Bryan Kocis, a general release for King Cobra is yet to be announced.
Surely that’s one good reason to cross the Atlantic?
