Imelda Staunton has joined the cast of the upcoming Downton Abbey movie.

The long-awaited movie was confirmed in July this year and as most of the remaining cast – including Dame Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville – set to return, the roster of talent continues to increase.

According to Digital Spy, Harry Potter star Staunton, Sherlock Holmes’ Geraldine James and The Thick of It’s David Haig are just some of the newcomers to the movie.

Simon Jones from The Hitchhike’s Guide to the Galaxy, Sense8’s Tuppence Middleton, Peaky Blinders’ Kate Phillips and Goodbye Christopher Robin’s Stephen Campbell Moore are also joining the movie.

The popular TV series ended after six series and was the highest rated series in the UK across all channels and built up a substantial global following and racked up 51 Emmy nominations since it began back in 2010.

There is currently no release date of the movie but with the likes of Smith and Staunton, it will definitely be unmissable.
