Hillary Clinton’s official campaign playlist is totally amazing

By Will Stroude

As her 2016 US presidential nomination campaign kicks off, Hillary Clinton has unveiled her official campaign playlist, and we’re more than a little impressed with the former First Lady’s political pop taste.

Clinton – who is running for the Democratic party’s presidential nomination – will soundtrack her campaign with empowering pop anthems by Katy Perry, Ariana Grande and J-Lo and Jon Bon Jovi.

As well as Katy’s Roar, Ariana’s Break Free and 1999 J-Lo deep-cut Let’s Get It Loud, the playlist complied by the Hillary for America campaign also includes Sara Bareilles’s 2013 coming out anthem BraveBareilles said she was “proud and beyond” at the song’s inclusion in the campaign to see the United States elect its first-ever female Commander-in-Chief.

Over the weekend, Clinton championed gay rights in her first official campaign speech, encouraging the introduction of anti-discrimination laws nationwide. She has long been an outspoken supporter of gay rights, but only recently endorsed full marriage equality after backing civil unions during her 2008 campaign.

The 67-year-old has made LGBT issues a high priority in her campaign, at a time when marriage equality is becoming an increasingly likely prospect nationally in the US – including a soon-to-be-married same-sex couple in her campaign launch video.

Clinton has yet to face a serious contender from within her own Democratic party for the presidential campaign, but a host of Republicans are battling it out to take her on, including Jeb Bush, Rand Paul and Rick Santorum.
