Heartstopper is looking for its Sahar Zahid ahead of the show’s second season, which is due to begin filming later this year.

In the casting call on Instagram on Saturday (9 July) the Heartstopper account said they were looking for someone who could play the 16-year-old.

The post also clarified: ‘We are looking for a plus-size actor of British South Asian heritage who identifies as female or non-binary. Professional experience is not essential.”

Producers are also looking for someone who is UK based and describe Sahar as “No nonsense, independent, a little cynical at times.

Actors should be available from Autumn 2022.

“Needless to say we would like to ensure performers from the LGBTQIA+ community feel inspired to apply along with allies to our community.”

People who are interested are advised to contact opencall@danieledwardscasting.com with a recent photo, a short bio, and contact details.

The deadline for submissions is stated as Monday 25 July 6 pm.

Commenting on the post the show’s star, Yasmin Finney said: “Can’t wait to meet her ❤️” while Heartstopper author, Alice Oseman, was “Screaming!!!!!”

In May it was confirmed that seasons two and three had been greenlit after the smash success of the first, which achieved a rare 100 percent rating on aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

The Attitude July/August issue is out now.
