Footballers’ Wives is set to be made into a stage musical.

Fans of one of the most popular TV series from the early noughties – which helped to establish the WAG culture – have been calling for the show to return but to no avail.

But now, series co-creator Maureen Chadwick has confirmed the show will be getting a stage musical adaptation and said it will be based on the first series of the series, which focused on Tanya Turner and her marriage to footballer Jason Turner.

Although we cannot help but think the musical came about following the recent ‘WAGatha Christie’ drama, it seems Chadwick has no plans for a series reboot.

She told Radio Times: “If there’s an appetite for it, and enough people want it, it would be worth having that conversation.

“Whatever job I do, I get people telling me they loved Footballers’ Wives. It was an escape and a bit of refreshing camp, but it was still really bold storytelling.

“I think we’d prefer to have an update than a reboot, a revival moving it forward. It’s more than just nostalgia, it’s about seeing what life is like now.”

The Footballers’ Wives musical is aiming to hit theatres in 2020.
