Ed Sheeran, Macklemore unite to perform gay rights anthem

Ed Sheeran and Macklemore united on stage to perform gay rights anthem Same Love over the weekend.

Sheeran appeared at iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas to perform a stripped back version of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’s 2013 hit, and welcomed the rapper to the stage part way through the song.

The song – which was praised for its support of gay marriage – peaked at number six on the UK Top 40 and number 11 on the US Hot 100.

Following the performance, Sheeran tweeted: “Much love to @macklemore for hopping on stage with me tonight.”

Macklemore and Lewis’s 2014 Grammys performance with Madonna, which saw them serenade gay and straight weddings with Same Love, was recently named one of the 25 greatest gay moments in music – read more here.

Meanwhile, Macklemore and Lewis are currently working on their second studio album, which will serve as the follow-up to their 2012 debut The Heistread more here.
